The Position
Reporting to the Regional Director, as District Manager, you will be responsible for managing an extended territory with multiple retail stores. Each store, depending on size and location, has approximately 30-50 team members, including a mix of direct and indirect reports.
You will work to maximize each store's profits, and the overall success of the district, through training and development, budget performance, a bias toward service, and overall performance excellence. As part of your specific responsibilities you will:
- Monitor and manage controllable expenses, ensuring they are in line with expectations
- Work with the regional leadership on the payroll budget, ensuring proper scheduling while staying within budget (i.e. reducing/eliminating overtime)
- Manage inventory shrinkage throughout the district, including executing and monitoring all shrink reduction programs
- Always manage in a professional manner, maintaining a positive attitude, sense of urgency and taking a hands-on approach to duties
- Drive consistent execution throughout your district
- Monitor district sales trends and make the necessary adjustments to maximize sales
- Recruit, train and develop new managers
- Support the opening of new locations
- Maintain a high level of service through personal interactions with employees and customers
- Resolve customer service issues in an effective and timely manner
- Ensure the safety of all employees and customers
- Recognize and reward positive employee performance
Skills and Requirements
The ideal candidate for this role will be an experienced, goal-oriented district manager capable of identifying gaps, and driving improvements, quality, and growth across multiple fast-paced, high-volume retail stores. To be a strong fit for the District Manager role, you will need:
- At least five years of experience overseeing multiple retail/big box/grocery or similar stores, ideally within a corporate chain
- A proven history of success overseeing operations and driving growth across multiple locations
- Lead and develop multiple levels and titles, from store managers to cashiers to stocking clerks
- Positively impact and motivate teams
- Help build bench strength by identifying and professionally developing employees with the potential advance
- P&L understanding and experience; understanding of top and bottom line
- Computer skills including MS Office Suite applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- The ability to ensure all company guidelines, policies, procedures are followed
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to stores throughout your district, as well as to other districts on occasion
- Bi-lingual English / Spanish is a plus
- A bachelor's or associate's degree or college coursework is a plus
