The Position
The
Merchandise Planner will be responsible for a range of inventory forecasting activities including but not limited to: inventory forecasting, historical item sales trend review, developing new item introduction and exit strategies, validation of closeout quantities and lifecycle, promotional inventory requirements, store category sales and inventory analysis, adjustment of seasonal inventory projections, creation of weekly sales and inventory position reports, coordinate with cross-functional teams such as Logistics, Buying, Bargain Wholesale group, Marketing, Allocation, Store Operations and more.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Gather, analyze and validate weekly sales and inventory data
- Enter and modify constraint data in DC forecasting system
- Modify recommendations based on promotional and seasonal trend requirements
- Apply error analysis techniques to improve forecasting
- Review promotional items and project anticipated sales and unit preparation
- Analyze post promotional activity with sell through performance
- Monitor timeliness of purchase order creation and/or transfers from CDC to KDC
- Monitor inbound and outbound flow of product to increase product turn
- Ensure optimum inventory levels necessary to meet projected sales demands
- Coordinate transfers to our Katy DC in Texas to maintain appropriate inventory levels
- Ensure accuracy of product hierarchy and flags
- Make recommendations for product mix revisions based on sales trend
- Work closely with Regional Directors, Buyers, Bargain Wholesale and Allocation teams to increase sales opportunities
Skills and Requirements
- BA/BS college degree or related work experience
- Three to five years of experience in a similar retail environment
- Business knowledge of similar retail planning concepts
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent Excel and Outlook skills
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-starter with entrepreneurial attitude
- Ability to multi-task
- Advanced organizational skills required
- Excellent math skills
- Ability to analyze past sales data and make assumptions to future trends
- Ability to work closely with many different teams within the company
- Ability to troubleshoot
- Consistent follow through is a must
- Highly driven and motivated to succeed
- Flexibility to changing duties and responsibilities
