SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Develops, oversees, and delivers excellent transportation performance to ensure 99 Cents Only Stores’ goods arrive to the stores on time. Directs operational activities and priorities of transportation staff, 99 Cents Only Stores’ Drivers, and of 3
rd party transportation providers. Collaborates with the business and supply chain to drive excellence and improvements in all aspects of the transportation process.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operations
- Key manager on Logistics team to engage with all levels of the transportation department to ensure continued efficiency and top service. Has experience in managing office staff and internal fleet and external 3rd party transportation carriers.
- Has experience managing large and complex 3rd party transportation carrier relationships including managing contractual key performance indicators (operational and financial) and leading weekly status meetings regarding performance with executives.
- Oversee team execution and data integrity of the shipments in logistics systems which includes Direct Route, DR Track, HighJump, PeopleNet, and FleetLocate
- Utilizes data and factual information to form decision making process.
- Plan and organize staff workload in support of daily operational needs. Structure workstations, job assignments, and technology resources to achieve excellent service and productivity.
- Ensure continuity in coverage 24/7. Manage after hours and weekend capability with supplemental resources and schedule priorities during peak periods.
- Hold carriers and employees accountable to performance standards. Work with warehouse and store leaders to address service issues.
- Ensure compliance of safety laws, regulations, and standards in transportation functions
- Develop better tools for team to visualize key risk indicators and enable faster intervention that leads to sound continuous improvement ideas. Has the ability to lead the execution of the continuous improvement projects and monitor progress.
- Upgrade our communication frequency, skills, and impact. Interact directly with business leaders to frequently communicate the status of key issues and initiatives.
- Believes in creating a department culture that is accountable, fast paced, and respectful.
- Manage employee performance and coach, recognize, discipline as appropriate.
- Ensure completion and regular updates of development plans for every employee.
- Attract, hire, and retain top talent.
- Ensure all Human Resource policies and guidelines for direct/indirect reports are implemented
- Abide to the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls as applicable to your function within the organization
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Supply Chain Management, or related field plus 3 years of experience in retail transportation operations or related area OR 7 years of experience in retail transportation operations or related area with increasing responsibilities
- Leadership experience with direct report responsibility
- Experience in mentoring and coaching others
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Access
- Familiarity with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
- Familiarity with Supply Chain Management principles and Transportation industry
- Experience managing budgets or contributing to the budget planning process
- Experience using troubleshooting processes to resolve problems
- Experience building a culture of safety among subordinates and peers
- Bi-lingual skills
- Ability to work at times and days based on needs of the department
